No chance I would join
The reason that I think men and women join the military today is for money and benefits. What I mean is that you get a decent amount of pay in the military and after some time when you quit you get housing for the rest of your life. You also get increased government benefits, tax reliefs and more Healthcare. I think the reasons today for joining the military are different from the ones back then. Back then it was a sense of patriotism and pride toward your nation and now it is about greed and money. In my opinion the service is not the risk involved because no amount of money or honor is worth your life. I don't think i would ever be motivated enough to fight a war because of my religion which says to practice nonviolence. I don't think i would have joined during the civil war because to me it just seemed like senseless fighting and to much bloodshed. I think it would have been very hard for me because i would fear for my life and i am very close to my family. Since i am only 13 I don't think that i would be able to endure the long sleepless nights and the hot boring days.
I don't agree that people join the military now for money and other benefits. I see your point that it is tempting to join the army because of these rewards, but it's a very high honor to serve the nation. That's why these people join the army and die for their country. They put their country before themselves and they deserve these benefits. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that people join the military at all for the money and what they get. Soldiers will probably get offended if you say that because they do it to serve their country and they want to be the person to represent their country. Choosing to join the army is a huge choice to make and people choose to join because they strongly love their country. Do you think the money they get is worth being separated from their families?
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the people going to the army for money because some of them need it (I don't mean that in an offensive way), but yes they do choose to join to serve the country, too. I don't think people join for greedy reasons, but for important reasons being able to put a roof over their family because they NEED the money.
ReplyDeleteI think, while it is true that some people join the army for the money and the benefits, most soldiers are serving in the army for their country. Yes, back then it was mostly for patriotism and adventure, but it is also like that now. Some may agree with you and say the risk of death is not the service, which it isn't. I think it is more the risk of death FOR others that is the service, and depending on the person, that does not even need a repayment of money or honor.
ReplyDeletePeople today don't just join the army for reasons of greed, but they might need the money. All soldiers in the army had a reason to join, but none of them wanted it for their own greedy purposes. Most of them probably are very patriotic and want to help their country. Being in the military is a very honorable position, and most soldiers don't want to shame their service by just taking the benefits. Most soldiers are willing to die for their country.
ReplyDeleteI think that most people don't join the military just to make a profit. It was usually to serve for their country. They would probably rather die for their country instead of just earning some money.
ReplyDeleteI think that your right. Soldier's join for the money and benefits, but I would also join for money and benefits. I wouldn't mind getting paid a good amount and get free housing for the rest of my life. I also know that there are big risks, but I really don't mind the risk of dying in battle because
ReplyDelete1. Your going to die sometime in your life
2. Your dying for a good cause
3. Your probably going to kill people before you die, so get as many kills before you die
