The South made a mistake from the moment they entered the war. The North had too many advantages in too many fields. The Union had more factories, which led to the making of more weapons and other essential supplies the South wasn't able to produce in such huge numbers. Another advantage the North had was that the government of the South was just created and wasn't able to accomplish much during the war, mainly because of the heavy states' rights and the inexperience that it had. Probably the greatest asset the North had was president Abraham Lincoln. He could keep the citizens of the Union calm and persuade them to continue with the war to preserve the Union. With all these advantages, the North should have crushed the South, but as we know, it turns out very differently.

I think the south could have won the war. Although the Union did have more factories, the South had more will to fight and defend their new nation. In addition, they only needed t last long enough for the union to get tired of fighting, while the union needed to win completely. The war was fought mostly In southern territory, and the southern people knew the land well enough to be ablen to plan battles. The north also had to switch generals often, and the south had Robert E. Lee to lead them throughout the entire war.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the North had the crushing advantages you describe in your post. I agree with you that the North did win but not because of crushing advantages. Ift was because the North and South had equal advantages and luch was on the side of the North. I mean after all if the North had been so much better then it wouldn't have "turned out very differently."
ReplyDeletei think the South could've won the war because though the north could mass produce weapons the southern soldiers had more experienced and motivation and the northern soldiers were mostly all volunteers so maybe some of the soldiers didn't even know how to use the guns anyways.
